The On Patrol Podcast is back! In Episode 35, we dive headfirst into one of the biggest topics currently facing the tabletop wargaming hobby: Artificial Intelligence. Is it EVIL? Useful? A threat to creativity? Or simply another tool in the hobby arsenal? Maybe it’s a little bit of all of the above.
Joining us for the discussion are Travis of TableTop Command Post and Allen of GameCraft Miniatures, as we explore differing perspectives on AI’s growing role in tabletop gaming, hobbying, research, painting, content creation, and beyond.
To be clear from the outset: this is not a formal debate, an exhaustive analysis, or an attempt to recite every authority, argument, or controversy surrounding the subject. Instead, this is a conversation between reasonable and rational wargamers (assuming such people actually exist) engaging honestly with the benefits, concerns, and realities of AI in the hobby space. With only a limited amount of time, we focused on what we believe are some of the major issues and viewpoints currently shaping the discussion.
Whether you strongly oppose AI, strongly support it, or are still figuring out where you stand, we hope you’ll give the episode a listen and join the conversation (preferably in a reasonable and rational manner). Open dialogue is important if we want to keep the hobby tent as large and welcoming as possible. One of the best parts of this hobby is the opportunity to challenge ourselves with different perspectives, interpretations, and applications. Thanks in advance for the listen, view, and engagement. As always, we appreciate your questions, comments, critiques, and continued support.
